Why buy when you can borrow from yourself?

Did you know one of the easiest - and free! - ways to revitalise your home is to actually shop from it? I do this all the time. It's amazing how quickly you can create a different feel with something you already own.

Here are 6 quick tips to get you on your way:

Rethink your lighting. Move lamps between rooms or try them in different spots. Swap out lampshades with different bases. Sometimes just relocating your light source transforms how you use a space. Photo 2 shows my floor lamp that used to live in my dining room, but after the yellow refresh, I decided to house it somewhere else, and voila! It now lights up a dark space in my kitchen, showing off my plants! Photo 3 is my lamp which was given a patterned spruce up by a shade I made, and I moved the old linen shade to my bedroom.

Move your art. Swapping pieces between rooms, or in the same room, gives a different vibe. This allows you to see your pieces with fresh eyes and can create a new dynamic in any room.

Rearrange and/or move furniture. Angling your sofa differently or pulling it away from the wall (which actually makes a room feel less closed in) can make a room feel brand new. Or, why not try creating a simple reading area with an armchair, side table and lamp?

Find other uses. That stack of books or magazines from your beside table could become a coffee table display. The tray from your dressing table might be perfect to turn a small ottoman or pouffe into a coffee table. An unused kitchen stool is brilliant as a plant stand.

Don't forget to look down. I regularly move the rugs around my home. It's really fun and can stop you getting bored of the same look. It's amazing how that change alone can pull a room together and give it a different vibe. Photo 1 shows the rug I had in the hallway, now in the kitchen after I moved the previous rug elsewhere!

Declutter and edit. Sometimes refreshing your space is actually about removing rather than adding. Clear off surfaces, pack away some of your accessories, and let your favourites breathe. You'll be amazed how much more intentional everything looks with a little space around it.

And, lastly, please remember this should be enjoyable. Don't think too hard about it. There's no hard or fast rules, so experiment until you feel it's right for your home! Happy home shopping!
